We want to thank everyone who contributed to the Poppy Fund Campaign.  As mentioned in the Cape Breton Post, the RCL Branch 126 Westside (Westmount) had a balance of approx. $12,850 at the end of September.  Despite the construction on Kings Rd in Sydney River, our commercial partners made close to $10, 820.  After this year’s expenses, we now have close to $19,540 in the Fund.  Those commercial partners included:  The Atlantic Superstore, Needs (Coxheath), The Coop, Noelle’s, My Cape Breton Home, Marty’s, and the Shoppers Drug Mart in Sydney River.  We are humbled by your generosity and the obvious support to the Veterans and to our branch.  THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!

The “last Thursday of the Month Dinner” is on MAY 28Th.  Roast Beef Dinner with all the trimmings.  Times 4-6PM.  We regret that along with everything else, we must increase the cost to $18 from now on.  Please contact Allan (577-5653) & Clara (593-2132) for your tickets.   Eat in or take out!  Tickets will not be sold at the door as we’ve previously mentioned.

The part-time janitor position has been filled. We wish to thank all those who responded.

The next cooking class for the kids will be on MAY 30TH between 9 & 11AM.  Kids aged 16 and under are FREE!  The purpose of this class is to give the kids something different and fun to do.  Unfortunately, it has come to this webmaster’s attention that some of the kids are allowed to be “totally wild.”  Branch 126 can be held responsible to accidents and injuries.  Parents are requested to “corral” their kids from time to time to maintain order and maximize the enjoyment for others.

The next monthly meeting will be on JUNE 2ND. The Executive meeting will be at 6:30PM and the general meeting will follow shortly there after.  As always, the public and those interested in joining the general meeting are welcome.  This will be the last meeting until September.

On JUNE 6TH, the Highlanders will be having their annual Lobster Dinner between 2 & 7PM.

On June 9TH at 7:30PM, the Ladies Auxiliary will have their last meeting of the season.  Membership is open to those ladies 18 years and over.  Dues are only $5.00 a year.  Their next meeting will be in September.  It has come to this webmaster’s attention that the “cooking class for the kids” has been sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary!  We indeed owe them a heartfelt WELL DONE & THANK YOU for their services.

The next cooking class for the kids will be on JUNE 13TH between 9 & 11AM.

The Branch 126 Awards Banquet has been cancelled for this year.

The “last Thursday of the Month Dinner” is on JUNE 25Th.  Menu includes Stuffed Chicken Dinner with all the trimmings.  Times 4-6PM.  We regret that along with everything else, we must increase the cost to $18 from now on.  Please contact Allan (577-5653) & Clara (593-2132) for your tickets (max tickets available are 150).   Eat in or take out!  Tickets will not be sold at the door as we’ve previously mentioned.

Grading Day activities will occur on JUNE 30TH between 10AM & 1PM.  Come one, come all – free hotdogs, burgers.  Games with prizes open to all would-be contestants (both parents & kids).

With the arrival of summer, the monthly meetings of the Executive, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the general membership will be suspended until September. This also includes the “last Thursday of the Month” dinners and the “Kids’ cooking classes.” Fret not, there will still be activities occurring at the Westside Legion during the summer.

July 1ST, of course, is Canada Day.  Branch 126 Westside will be celebrating in Petersfield Park, Westmount with a kiosk selling hamburgers and pop.  We can always use help.  If your interested in volunteering to help please stop by the Legion when we’re open (Wed-Sat, 4-11PM). The Legion building itself (specifically the lounge) will be closed in celebration of the holiday.

On July 25th, we’re hosting a craft fair. Details are sketchy at this time. The webmaster will update this event as more information becomes known.

We’re planning on a golf tournament at Alderdale Greens on Rudderham Rd, Point Edwards.

Tentative date is August 29th.  Cost TBA.  There will be a small repast following the tournament.
